Golden Gate Bridge
Landmark
The orange-red bridge across the entrance to San Francisco Bay.
The Golden Gate Bridge crosses the strait between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. It opened in 1937 and is 2.7 kilometres long.
The two towers are 227 metres high. For 27 years no suspension bridge in the world had a longer span. Its colour is called International Orange, and it was chosen so that ships would see the bridge in the fog.
