Avenue of the Baobabs
Nature
Giant trees that look as if they were planted upside down.
Along a dirt road in the west of Madagascar stand about two dozen baobabs, up to 30 metres tall. Their trunks are thick and smooth, with a small tuft of branches at the very top, like roots sticking into the sky.
The trees are hundreds of years old. They once stood in a thick forest. The forest was cut down for fields, and the baobabs were left.
