Yangtze
River
The longest river in Asia cuts China in two.
The Yangtze flows for about 6,300 kilometres, from the ice of the Tibetan highlands to the sea at Shanghai. Only the Nile and the Amazon are longer.
More than 400 million people live in the lands around it: more than in the whole of the United States. Halfway along, the river squeezes through the Three Gorges, where the largest power station in the world now stands.
