Plitvice Lakes
Water
Sixteen lakes that pour into each other, in the forests of Croatia.
The Plitvice Lakes lie one above the other like steps, joined by dozens of waterfalls. The water is so clear that you can see fish and fallen trees on the bottom, and it changes from green to blue with the light.
The dams between the lakes were not built by people. They are made of a soft stone that the water itself lays down, and they grow by about a centimetre a year.
