Colosseum
Ancient site
The arena where Rome came to watch gladiators fight.
The Colosseum in Rome opened in the year 80. More than 50,000 people could sit and watch gladiators fight each other, or hunters take on wild animals.
It had 80 entrances, so the whole crowd could get in and out quickly. Earthquakes, and people taking the stones for other buildings, are why part of it is missing today.
