Amazon River
River
No river on Earth carries more water.
The Amazon runs for about 6,400 kilometres across South America, from the Andes in Peru to the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil. More than a thousand smaller rivers flow into it.
It pours so much water into the ocean that the sea is still fresh far from the coast. In the rainy season the river spills over its banks and floods a strip of forest tens of kilometres wide.
