Wadden Sea
Nature
A sea you can walk across twice a day.
The Wadden Sea lies between the mainland and a chain of islands, along the coast of the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. Twice a day the tide pulls the water away and leaves a huge plain of sand and mud.
It is the largest area of its kind in the world. Millions of birds stop here on their long journeys to eat worms and shellfish from the mud, and seals rest on the sandbanks.
