Eiffel Tower
Landmark
An iron tower built for a world's fair, and never taken down.
The Eiffel Tower was built for the World's Fair of 1889 in Paris. It was only meant to stand for twenty years. It was saved because it turned out to be a very good radio mast.
At 330 metres it was the tallest structure in the world for more than forty years. It is named after Gustave Eiffel, whose company built it out of more than 18,000 iron parts.
